I think that Michael ultimately came across as more likeable and less tragic than David Brent because he did genuinely care about people and gave people genuine compliments. Examples include when he loved Pam’s painting at her art show, when he told Erin that she was becoming so funny the morning of his last Dundies, and when he wrote a letter of recommendation for Dwight. He also ultimately ended up in a healthy loving romantic relationship with Holly. I can’t think of any time David Brent gave anyone a genuine compliment. In the final episode of the original Office, David Brent had a small victory when the staff laughed at his joke, but Tim and Dawn were just kind of tolerating his presence and Gareth was actively trying to humiliate him. Micheal became a surprise best man at Dwight’s wedding in the “ best prank ever.” Performed by Jim. Heck, Jim and Dwight were friends by the final episode of the US Office, whereas Gareth was actively trying to humiliate Tim in the Christmas special and Tim was still trying to prank Gareth. The final episodes of both shows worked really well for what they were- the original UK being a limited UK series and the US being a long running US network TV show, which may have gone on too long past its prime, but stuck the landing in the final two episodes.

Subtlety is the distiguishing hallmark that separates UK/British humour from American humour. American humour has to be obvious and explained: "Hey guys we're doing a joke now, time to laugh!" *cue laugh track* British humour is downplayed and we like to search for the joke.

I’m completely out of the loop on what’s happening with Doctor Who these days, but the guy that played Johnson on Peep Show ( Paterson Joseph ) could make a damn compelling Doctor. Also they should have the Rick and Morty writers help consult to get some fresh ideas.

it’s just boring they’re doing the same thing over and over. RTD is tryna replicate his shows like it’s a sin/ years and years and pumping those emotional roles in DW but it’s overplayed at this point. you can tackle social issues without it being so blatant. also hate the new who doctor is god/ everyone fancies them. it’s cringe! Edit: agree with the costuming 15 looks like he’s straight out of the asos homepage.

Doctor Who putting out a scream of rage about its current deteriorating situation but still taking time out of the day to call the fans speccy nerds is the most iconic thing ever. Also gotta disagree about the part one cliffhanger. The hard cut from Mags screaming silently to the Doctors nonchalance is actually what hooked me on the serial the most

2007 Giant Foam Nose for the Win! Simple, customizable, not uncomfortable to wear since it was foam, came with a chocolate Wallace face. The ideal red nose, in my opinion. All the ones after that went with the "Collect 'em all" idea, like they were Gogos or something. I didn't mind that as a kid, I really liked my Captain Conk pirate nose, but when they changed it from three noses to SEVEN noses, I thought that was a bit far. Especially since they started having rare gold noses and stuff.

I know it's just been one episode and that that episode was a Christmas special but something hasnt connected with 15 for me. I like him. I think he's a nice guy. However, he doesnt feel like... the Doctor 🤷‍♀️ It sounds clichè but to me its obviously someone trying to play the Doctor. Adding to your point about mystery and enigma i feel like we've forgotten that the Doctor is an alien. Of course hes lived with humans for centuries (so dont assume im falling into the Whittaker "im socially awkward" trap) but there is very little besides the glaringly obvious that differentiates him from a really intelligent human these days. Hes slightly wiser but thats it. There's a lack of subtle writing that shows his more alien foreign side lately. Its usually just slammed into the script through the use of technibabble and the occasional "arent humans stupid?" lines. I would prefer the writers explore an avenue that seperates the Doctor from humanity slightly. Obviously a big part is reducing the amount of earth-based stories, but I'd like to see a bigger exploration of him being separate and above (evolutionarily) humans outside of the usual biological and intelligence side of things. I also am already sick of him speaking like some council estate mum ( "hun", "babes" etc.) Its not hip or funny imo. Its also another one of these things thats uniquely human that doesnt really make sense for him to act like.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt Millie Gibson was overacting. I could never quite settle into the performance and just enjoy Ruby as a character; I was always too aware that I was watching someone acting. I'm really hoping she'll find a groove with the character, but for now I'm just not sold on her.

I don't think Capaldi's episodes carried much past trauma, apart from that "am I a good man" thing near the beginning.

Disagree. He seems more free than any of the modern doctors. Trauma doesn't disappear straight away.... I see nothing wrong with the doctor and his companion having something to relate to. It like you don't want fun. He is enigmatic and mysterious. Clearly not giving him a chance when he's only had 1 episode. Have you not been watching the trailers he's clearly going to be dark....

I think one gripe i have with newer who (and a lot of modern shows) is that they can never take themselves seriously, what i mean by that is that there always has to be a punchline to everything. With Ecclestone and Tennant, there was a certain humour to some scenarios but it wasnt afraid to be dark and depressing. I just cant stand these forced jokes/one liners that completely throw away the gravity of situations and take away from the immersion of the stories. Everything seems to be Marvel-ised nowadays
